Fiesta en la Huerta fue un éxito

El 13 de agosto de 2011, se llevó acabo el evento Fiesta en
la Huerta auspiciado por la Iniciativa Latina (Latino
Initiative) de United Way en el Centro de Arte y Cultura de
Sofía Quinteros.
“La Fiesta en la Huerta fue un éxito”, dijo Maricela Alcala,
CRS,
gerente de programa de 211 de United Way y
agregó que alrededor de 100 personas atendieron el evento.
Con la participación de varias organizaciones y negocios de la
comunidad, el acontecimiento atrajo a familias con el deseo de
educarse en temas relacionados con la salud, como combinar
ingredientes de la huerta en la cocina de todos los días y como
mejorar el estado físico y de salud.
Durante la tarde hubo demostraciones de comidas, tales como
gazpacho y guacamole y también una competición de salsa casera.
La ganadora se llevó un certificado para el restaurante Mi
Hacienda.
Se ofrecieron, al igual, exámenes de salud e información
relacionada al bienestar de la familia y el Fun Bus, dirigido
por YMCA, brindó actividades para niños.
Los organizadores estaban altamente agradecidos a todos aquellos
que participaron y colaboraron en la Fiesta en la Huerta, dando
una mención especial a Mi Hacienda por su donación, Sofía
Quinteros Art and Cultural Center por prestar el espacio, a
Veronica Englert por su esmero y entusiasmo, y a
AAMS-CSEAbility Center, Adelante, AIDS Resource Center of Ohio,
City of Toledo - Board of Community Relations,
East Toledo Family Center, El Camino Real,
ProMedica, TARTA, YMCA/JCC of Greater Toledo y
Kohl's Kids in Action.
Cabe destacar que la Iniciativa Latina de United Way está
compuesta por organizaciones y negocios locales e individuos
interesados en la prosperidad de la comunidad latina.

The Party in the Garden
event was a success
On Saturday, August 13, 2011, the Latino Initiative of United
Way hosted Party in the Garden at the Sofia Quintero Art and
Cultural Center, Toledo.
“Fiesta en la Huerta
(Party in the Garden) was a success,” said Maricela Alcala,
CRS, program manager of 211 United Way; she added that about 100
people attended.
Local organizations and businesses participated in the event,
attracting families that wanted to learn about health, how to use
ingredients from the garden in the everyday cooking and how to
improve their health.
The participants enjoyed food demonstrations, such as gazpacho and
guacamole and also a homemade salsa contest. The winner received a
gift certificate from the restaurant “Mi Hacienda.”
Health screenings and information related to health topics for the
entire family were offered. The YMCA brought the Fun Bus,
presenting activities for children.
The organizers were grateful for all those who participated and
helped with Fiesta en la Huerta, giving special mention to Mi
Hacienda Restaurant for its donation, to Sofia Quinteros Art and
Cultural Center for providing the space, to Veronica Englert for her
dedication and enthusiasm, and to
