Toledo Community
Foundation Awards Grants Totaling More Than $346,000 to 13
Nonprofit Organizations
September 26, 2011: The
Board of Trustees of Toledo Community Foundation, Inc. recently
awarded grants totaling $346,335 from its Community Funds and a
Field of Interest Fund to thirteen area nonprofit
organizations.
Grants from the
Foundation’s Community Funds are considered three times
annually, and are awarded only to nonprofit, charitable
organizations. The next deadline for receipt of proposals in the
Foundation office is January 15, 2012.
Grants were recently
awarded to the following organizations:

Catholic Charities,
Diocese of Toledo,
Inc. – $41,765 to support the Family Emergency
Guidance program that provides rent and mortgage assistance
and household financial management training.

East Toledo Family
Center
– $50,000 to support the Bank on Toledo Initiative that
offers financial literacy education and increases access to
mainstream financial institutions.

Friendly Center, Inc.
– $28,875 to support the Jamie Farr Community Soup Kitchen.

Foundation Center
– $3,500 to support the Center, which maintains information
about foundations and corporate grantmaking.

Greater Toledo Urban
League
– $70,000 to support the Overland Park Community Engagement
Initiative.

Kids Unlimited, Inc.
– $45,000 to support after school programming at Martin
Luther King Academy.

Polly Fox Academy
– $31,500 to support
mental health and art therapy services.
-
St. Paul’s Community Center
– $25,000 to support
the Winter Crisis program that provides shelter to homeless
individuals during inclement weather.

Sunshine Foundation, Inc.
– $13,440 to support
the music therapy program.
-
Water for Ishmael
– $15,000 to support
the Social Services for the Arab Community Project, which
will provide specialized services to Arab immigrant
families.
Field of Interest Funds
are established at the Foundation to allow donors to direct
funding to specific causes (i.e., the environment, youth
programs, the elderly or the arts, for instance) or geographical
areas (a town, county or region). The following grants have
been awarded from The Mental Health Association of Lucas County
CARE Fund, a Field of Interest Fund which was created to support
agencies located in northwest Ohio that offer education,
advocacy and support services benefiting persons with mental
illness, their family members and/or caregivers:

Double Arc
– $8,980 was awarded to provide services that decrease
mental health issues associated with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum
Disorders.

Thomas M. Wernert
Center
– $4,295 was awarded to support the implementation of the
Diabetes and Prevention Wellness Series.

Zepf Community Mental
Health Center
– $8,980 was awarded to support the expansion of the Art
Expressions Program.
