The Puerto Rican Parade & Latino Festival celebrates
Latino heritage and the diversity of Cleveland, drawing a yearly
estimated attendance of 60,000. The 2012 Festival
will take place on Friday, August 3,
2012, from 5PM-12AM, Saturday, August 4, from 12PM-12AM, and
Sunday, August 5th from 12PM-10PM at the Cleveland
Municipal Parking Lot, 1500 South Marginal Road, Cleveland.
Featuring the “Past & Present of Salsa Music” with two
live 90 minute performances of new star group N’KLABE
(8/4/12 at 10PM), with a couple #1 singles on the Billboard
Tropical Airplay in less
than three months under their belt and the legendary singer
Herman Olivera y Orquesta (8/5/12 at 8PM). The opening act
for both featured artists will be well known versatile comedian
Josue Torres (8/4-5/12) of Puerto Rico, creator of such
characters as “Chef KaKo Viste.”
It promises to be an energetic fun filled weekend, with many
talented local musicians, dance groups and introducing a more
interactive format with several open competitions and prizes. As
well as the recognizing of Latino contributions to the
underground entertainment community in Cleveland, with the long
overdue “2012 Shadow Awards” (8/3/12 at 9PM), allowing
open nominations of local Latin artists and choosing the award
winners for 3 categories by online voting, named after a
Cleveland urban legend José “Shadow” Lebrón who passed
away over two decades ago.
The Puerto Rican Parade,
scheduled for Sunday, August 3rd at 1:30PM in
Downtown Cleveland is always the colorfully vivid and boisterous
main attraction, a showcasing of Puerto Rican pride and Latino
culture. The
route will be from East 13th Street and Superior
westbound to East 9th Street turning to North
Marginal Road to Festival Grounds.
The organizers of the annual event were founded by a group of
dedicated and committed parents and teachers. The Julia De
Burgos Cultural Arts Center has been home to an array of
arts-based programs, theatrical and musical performances. A
gathering place to infuse the Latino culture into the community,
celebrate our rich cultural heritage with free classes and youth
oriented endeavors.
The Puerto Rican Parade & Latino Festival is the culmination of
this mission. People of all ages and ethnicities are welcome to
come together to learn, share, create, and celebrate.
All three days are open to the
general public to enjoy the lively diverse atmosphere.
