Thousands attend Convencion Hispana ‘19


CLEVELAND: The Hispanic Roundtable hosted its triennial community convention, Convencion Hispana 2019, on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Max Hayes High School, 2211 W. 65th Street, Cleveland. Several thousand attended to this free and worthy event.  


Convención 19,’ sets the Hispanic community’s agenda providing numerous community resources including educational workshops, a health & community resource fair, and a job fair with area employers offering on-site interviews.


The Health Fair included Diabetes and Hypertension screenings, free flu shots, education and awareness on mental health issues and the “Say Yes” scholarship program. 


A Naturalization Ceremony was held for over a score of newly created citizens from numerous countries, with remarks by U.S. Magistrate Judge David A. Ruiz.


Past notable initiatives, include the Esperanza Scholarship Fund, the Hispanic Business Association, La Villa Hispana concept (recently acquiring the Weber building on W. 25th Street for a Hispanic business hub), the Hispanic Senior Center, and the Hispanic Domestic Violence Program, among others.


Breakfast and lunch were included in the day’s activities.

The capstone of the event was the keynote address and musical performance by legendary Puerto Rican singer, José Feliciano, Grammy award-winning musician, singer and composer, best known for many international hits, including his rendition of The Doors, “Light My Fire,” and the best-selling Christmas single, “Feliz Navidad.”
