TARTA and TMACOG seek Community Input for Local Transportation Plan

August 7, 2020: The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) and Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments (TMACOG) are working together to update the Locally Coordinated Human Services Transportation Plan for the Toledo Urbanized Area, which includes all of Lucas County, and portions of Wood County and Monroe County, Michigan.

The plan’s purpose is to identify community resources for transportation, understand the gaps and unmet needs, and to develop strategies to address those gaps and unmet needs.

Critical to identifying the goals and strategies of this transportation plan is community input. Currently a 10-minute survey is available online, https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LOCHSTP, or by contacting Marissa Bechstein at 419.241.9155 ext. 1117 or bechstein@tmacog.org. The survey is open until Aug. 14, 2020.

TARTA and TMACOG will also host a public meeting to discuss and seek input on the plan on Aug. 27, 2020 from 6p.m. to 7p.m. Meeting details will be shared at www.tarta.com.

“There are many transportation resources in the Toledo Metropolitan area and it is our goal to work with our partners and stakeholders to fill the gaps and address the mobility needs for our community as best as we can,” said Sean Smith, TARTA senior planning associate. “By working together, we can be more efficient, we can share more innovative ideas, and we can build a more reliable and affordable transit network.”

According to Ms. Bechstein, TMACOG transportation planner, “In order to have inclusive and reliable transportation, we must identify gaps in existing transportation services. Our goal is to coordinate with all private and public transportation providers to create a seamless transportation system.”

Coordination of health and human service providers and public transit has been demonstrated to reduce costs and increase access to services for older adults, people with disabilities and other transportation disadvantaged populations.
